rConfig - Device Inventory Overview

4 mins V7 Pro

Device Inventory is a powerful feature in rConfig that allows you to extract device properties from your network infrastructure. With this feature, you can utilize two methods for data extraction: SNMP Polling and Device Configuration Parsing. These methods provide flexibility to gather information using SNMP, SSH, or Telnet protocols, and they are also compatible with rConfig Pro’s Script Integration Features. Please note that this feature does not apply to xFTP or API backups as of version V7.3.0.

Running an Inventory Report

The main functionality of the Device Inventory feature is the ability to run an Inventory Report. This report can be executed regardless of whether SNMP Polling or Device Configuration Parsing features are enabled on devices. However, if one or both features are enabled, additional data will be included in the report output.

To run an Inventory Report:

  1. Navigate to the Devices section in rConfig.
  2. Click on the Inventory Report button.
  3. Once the report has completed processing, a link will be provided to download the report.

The report is generated in CSV format, which can be easily converted to Excel for offline filtering and editing.

Note: The Inventory Report’s enhanced output is only available for devices with SNMP Polling and/or Configuration Parsing enabled. If these features are not enabled, the report will still contain basic device information.

Once downloaded, you can use the report to analyze, audit, or manage your network infrastructure efficiently.

Viewing Device Properties

To view properties:

  1. Navigate to a specific device in rConfig.
  2. In the main Device View, under the Device Details panel, if SNMP or Configuration Properties have been retrieved for the device, new items will be available.
  3. Only a few properties are displayed initially. Click View More to reveal all remaining properties in case there are additional details available.
  4. SNMP Props are displayed with a Cube style icon and Config Props are displayed with a Text/Lines style icon.

This functionality ensures that you can access detailed device properties efficiently and only load additional data as needed.
