rConfig Vector – Features Roadmap
rConfig Vector Agent Roadmap
rConfig Vector Agent Roadmap
Introduction
The rConfig Vector Agent is a fairly new product, but it already boasts some amazing features with phenomenal potential. As part of the rConfig family, it continues the tradition of being developed on your terms, not ours. We understand the evolving nature of network management, and we are committed to ensuring this platform grows to meet your needs.
Mission Statement from Stephen
“Our goal with the rConfig Vector Agent is to unshackle the world of network management from rigid, opinionated systems. We envision a future where flexibility, innovation, and user-driven development define the standard of network management. Together, we will redefine what’s possible.”
1. Enhanced Multi-Protocol Support
We will bring the ability to push configuration changes using the agent, leveraging our mature snippets feature with all the same capabilities as native rConfig V7. Additionally, we plan to introduce our new SNMP property polling feature, enhancing data collection capabilities.
Our script integration engine will require a bit more development effort, but we expect to deliver this powerful feature later this year.
We will avoid using Telnet as much as possible, ensuring a secure approach to device communication. REST API backup support is also on the roadmap and is planned for release later this year.

2. Advanced Security Enhancements
We currently offer several key encryption capabilities, ensuring that sensitive configuration data and communications are protected. These existing features help secure data both at rest and in transit, making sure your network remains safeguarded from potential threats.
Looking forward, we plan to expand our encryption options further. Later this year, we will introduce more robust encryption schemes and support for advanced cryptographic standards. Our focus will be on providing flexible and configurable encryption settings, allowing users to tailor security measures to their specific compliance and operational needs.
Additionally, we will work toward enhancing encrypted backups, with seamless key management and automated encryption mechanisms to ensure that data remains protected without burdening users with manual processes.
Security remains one of our top priorities, and we are committed to delivering continuous improvements in this area as the platform evolves.
3. Scalability and Distributed Architecture
We are working on enhancing the fault tolerance and failure-handling mechanisms of the Vector Agent architecture. Later this year, we will introduce improvements that ensure that all critical events, including network interruptions, server failures, and agent disconnections, are handled gracefully without data loss or system downtime.
Our goal is to create a robust distributed system that can dynamically balance workloads across multiple agents and automatically recover from faults. This will allow large-scale deployments to operate seamlessly, even in complex or unpredictable network environments.
4. Intelligent Monitoring and Diagnostics
At rConfig, we are a pure-play NCM provider, and it’s what we do really well. While we presently have no plans to venture into full-scale network monitoring and diagnostics, we are genuinely excited about the capabilities that our new agent brings to the table.
Our focus remains on delivering exceptional configuration management, but the Vector Agent has the potential to solve real-world problems beyond its initial design. With its ability to capture and process data efficiently, we are exploring ways it can complement existing diagnostic tools in your network.
We’re particularly interested in collaborating with users to understand how this agent can help with early detection of configuration-related performance issues, automate troubleshooting workflows, and enhance visibility into network behavior. With these insights, we may be able to introduce new solutions or integrations that enhance both configuration management and diagnostics without overextending our core mission.
Stay tuned as we work on unlocking even more value from the Vector Agent to address challenges you face in real network environments.
