Cisco ONS 15454

Cisco calls them ENEs

The elements behind a gateway are ENEs (End NEs) in Cisco’s documentation, where Ciena says RNEs. They are the same thing, and rConfig’s UI uses Ciena’s term: an ENE appears in the TL1 Gateway panel as an RNE.

Records are positional

RTRV-MAP-NETWORK is the only neighbour format of the three with no keywords at all:

Each record is "<IPADDR>,<NODENAME>,<PRODUCT>".

NODENAME is the TID. PRODUCT is the platform, and this is the one TL1 vendor that reports a real model per element rather than leaving rConfig to copy the gateway’s. Discovered ENEs carry their own model and their own IP.

The vendor documentation notes PRODUCT returns UNKNOWN for a node running a different software version. rConfig does not store that as a model; the element falls back to the gateway’s.

A gateway lists itself

The first record in the map is the gateway’s own. rConfig drops it, so the gateway is not reconciled as an element behind itself, which would create a duplicate device record that every other gateway then reports as missing.

Leave it unset and RTRV-MAP-NETWORK is used. Set it and rConfig sends exactly what you wrote, with one exception: a value beginning with RTRV-NBR is replaced with RTRV-MAP-NETWORK and a warning is logged. That was the shipped default before 8.4.0 and no node answers it, so honouring it means discovering nothing.
